Each shell is finished with graphics inspired by a bike built for the band on the show. They feature a flat-black powdercoated finish, red powdercoated hardware, and pin striping hand done by hot rod pin striping legend Jim Brando. It has a numbered badge and was personally signed by the president and founder of Trick Drums, Mike Dorfman.Trick snares Manufactured from the same AL13 shell as Trick's drum sets, Trick snare drums feature lathe-cut bearing edges, solid machined-aluminum tuning lugs, and precision snare beds. Trick snare drums provide the player with amazing sensitivity, projection and cutting power. With simple head changes, Trick snare drums will cover every type of musical situation. Trick's snare attachment cable is made from aircraft grade, interwoven stainless steel cable, which is sealed in nylon. This snare features machine-lasered skull vents and a GS007 throw-off.Trick's AL13 alloy Trick drums are manufactured using the AL13 resonant alloy. This material comes certified from the mill with a guarantee that every Trick drum shell has a 1/8"-thickness. By taking this uniform approach, the shells separate tonally—in relation to their size increments—with no other variables, allowing Trick drum shells to tonally descend in a perfectly pitched separation.The reason this doesn't apply to wooden shells is because they're manufactured from numerous plies, each of which can differ in hardness and moisture content. Most shells made from wood contain several plies held together with glue. Yamaha has brilliantly crafted a true masterpiece by formulating these different woods and their tonal characteristics for different plies that result in excellence! It also features new versions of Yamaha's Nouveau lugs, and YESS. It has 11-ply hybrid shells, and the woods used are progressively harder from the center ply to the outer plies. The center ply is jatoba; this is a very hard wood' and it anchors the fundamental of the shell. Sandwiched on either side of this is kapur. This wood is in the mahogany family and adds warmth to the sound of the drum. The inner and outer plies are maple, which rounds out the tone adding high and mid frequencies to the shell.The 22"x18" bass drum has a sharper edge cut toward the outer plies, which gives it attack and shortens the decay. The 16"x15" floor tom has a slightly rounded edge to give it the right balance of attack and sustain, making it very articulate at all dynamic levels. The 12"x9" and 13"x10" toms have an even more rounded profile for warmth and sustain. This combination of shell composition and bearing edges makes Phoenix among the most musical drums ever made.The Phoenix uses redesigned versions of the Nouveau lug and YESS.
